Each name with a story to tellPosted by Yanle (Singapore, Singapore) on 23 April 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture. This was taken a few days back while visiting the Vietnam Memorial at Washington DC. Our tour guide told us that those with the + sign are the Vietnam War soldiers who went missing. Probably dead, gone from this world, but their bodies were never found, thus they can never be certified dead. Those with a diamond sign (like a shaded and complete + sign) are the soldiers who are certified dead. There are those with a circle around the + sign, meaning these soldiers were found later after the war ended. Unfortunately, only a few names had that sign. The memorial park is also V shaped, not for Vietnam, but for Victory. A victory won at the expense of young, hopeful men, mostly barely 30 years of age.
