AperturePosted by Yanle (Singapore, Singapore) on 26 April 2008 in Art & Design and Portfolio. An opening or gap to let in light. I have explored the usage of aperture to let in not just light, but sound, scent and sight too. By doing so, one then has to explore other possibilities that aperture can be expressed, rather than just varying the opacity of glass used. This design, a space for a Photographer, is also responsive to the typology of the typical shophouse. A perimeter lightwell redefines a traditional lightwell, while the 5 foot way is maintained. The lower level is a gallery space, public and accessible to all, whilst maintaining a certain level of privacy with the louvred screens. As one circulates to the upper level, one is faced with 2 spaces - the semi-private studio and the private darkroom. This subtle difference in level of privacy is shown by orchestrating 2 separate circulation routes. One finds it more accessible to get to the studio. ps- panels are very much compressed due to the sheer size of them. 5 A1s = 10 A2s = 20 A3s = 40 A4s worth of handdrawings.
